The Liberty got some revenge by beating the Aces in the semifinals of the 2024 WNBA Playoffs to return to the Finals.

Now, New York will face the Minnesota Lynx in the 2024 Finals, with Game 1 starting on Thursday night in Brooklyn.

While the Liberty were one of the initial teams when the WNBA formed in 1997, that doesn't mean they have seen a ton of success. Despite multiple trips to the WNBA Finals, the Liberty are one of three current WNBA teams without a championship.

Here's everything you need to know about New York's brutal history in the WNBA Finals.

How many WNBA championships have the Liberty won?

Despite appearing in four of the first six WNBA Finals, the Liberty have not won a championship since joining the league in 1997.

After their fourth finals appearance in 2002, the Liberty went 20 years without a Finals appearance before returning to the series last year. The Aces defeated the Liberty in four games to win their second straight title.

New York is one of three current WNBA teams without a title, the others being the Connecticut Sun and Atlanta Dream. However, the Liberty are the only organization remaining from the WNBA's inaugural season that hasn't won yet.
