The Caitlin Clark era is officially here.

The 2024 WNBA broadcast schedule kicks off with Fever vs. Sun and the debut of the most anticipated rookie in WNBA history. College basketball's all-time leading scorer — women or men — enters with more attention and hype than any WNBA player before her.

LIVE SCORE: Follow updates on Caitlin Clark's WNBA debut

In her senior year at Iowa, Clark poured in a ridiculous 31.6 points per game while drawing far more attention than any other player on opposing scouting reports. Will it immediately translate with Clark proving to be one of the WNBA's best players from the jump? Or will she face a rookie reality check?

Sporting News has you covered with her WNBA debut over/under along with some key stats to consider ahead of Fever vs. Sun.

Projecting Caitlin Clark points tonight

BetMGM is setting Caitlin Clark's points over-under at 20.5 points, more than 10 points less than she averaged last year at Iowa. That dropped a full point from earlier in the day when it was at 21.5.

After scoring 21 in her preseason debut against the Dallas Wings, Clark followed up with a 12-point effort on 4-12 shooting in her second game against the Atlanta Dream (not to mention a game-high eigh rebounds and six assists).

A few stats to consider when thinking about Clark's scoring total in her debut:

  • 12 players in WNBA history have scored over 21.5 points in a debut, though only two have done it in the last decade — 2019 Napheesa Collier (27), 2016 Breanna Stewart (23).
  • Connecticut ranked 2nd in Defensive Rating last season
  • Connecticut's defense ranked 1st in 3-pt FG%, 2nd in 3-pt FGM and 2nd in turnovers forced
  • Last year, Indiana went 0-4 against Connecticut with no player scoring over 20.

While 21.5 certainly seems within range for a player like Clark, the matchup against a truly elite defense isn't great — especially so good defending the three-point line.

Prediction: Caitlin Clark under 20.5 points — though without much confidence! Her rebounds over/under of 4.5 could be more enticing coming off an 8-rebound game against Atlanta in the preseason finale. One writer's prediction on her final line?

  • 19 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists with 4 made three-pointers
