Season 33 of Dancing with the Stars got underway last week. We met the newest cast of dancers, including NBA veteran Dwight Howard, and Olympian icons Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik.

Episode 1's theme was personal anthems, so each competitor got to dance to a song that meant a lot to them. Maher epically danced to "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" by Shania Twain and erupted with excitement when she got her score results. Howard impressed with his salsa dance to Montell Jordan's "This is How We Do It." Nedoroscik leaped over his partner Rylee Arnold during his debut dance to Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now."

When the show ended, Disney star Chandler Kinney received the top judge's score. This is important heading into Week 2, but we could see just how important the audience vote is. Despite arguably being the most charming, Reginald VelJohnson heads into Episode 2's "Oscars Night" with the fewest points from the judges.

Dancing with the Stars results from Episode 1

The first episode of the season had several reveals. We obviously got to meet the new cast and their partners. We were also then told that no star was getting eliminated in the first week.

As the episode ended, the hosts snuck in that because of this, there would be two eliminations in the second episode. Here are the judge's scores from Episode 1, which carried over to this week's show:

Who was eliminated on Dancing with the Stars?

Anna Delvey and Tori Spelling were both eliminated from the competition in Week 2. Their exits marked the first eliminations of the 33rd season, as no competitors were axed during the premiere.

Delvey, a convicted con artist, and Spelling, an actor, did not fall in the bottom two in either Week 1 or Week 2 of the competition based on the judges' scores. But neither did they land among the top performers. Indeed, Spelling finished with the third-lowest score in Week 1, while Delvey finished with the third-lowest score in Week 2.

How does Dancing with the Stars scoring work?

The show's scoring is divided into two categories: judges and audience. During the episode, the three judges each give the dancers a score from 1 to 10. This season, Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli return as judges. Before the audience votes, the judges give the dancers a maximum of 30 points.

This is where the scoring can get confusing. It isn't exactly the number of points a dance gets, but how that number relates to the total number of votes the judges gave out. Let's say the judges give out 100 points throughout the round; dancer A gets 10, and dancer B gets 20. Before audience votes are tallied, dancer A will have 10 percent of the judge's vote and dancer B will have 20 percent.

Let's say dancer A got 35% of the public vote, while dancer B only got 5%. Dancer A's final score would be 45% of the vote, and dancer B would have gotten 40%. In this example, dancer A would move on, and dancer B would be eliminated.

Scoring is the percentage of the judges' votes added to the percentage of the audience's votes for a total score.

How to vote for Dancing with the Stars

You can cast your vote for your favorite dancers either through ABC's website or text messages. A number will pop up on the screen during the broadcast, and you can text the dancer's first name to that number to register a vote.

Usually, you are limited to casting up to five votes or the number of contestants remaining, whichever is higher. This year, you get 10 votes per couple, per voting method.

Voting is only live during the original DTWS broadcast in the ET/CT slot.
