Mexico can't afford another slip-up like the one against Qatar last time out, and especially not in Saturday's single-elimination Gold Cup quarterfinal.

If El Tri wants to continue its run in the 2023 continental tournament, Jaime Lozano's squad will have to show that the real Mexico was the one seen in action during the first two group games against Honduras and Haiti.

Mexico will have the chance to start the knockout rounds with a clean slate beginning with the quarterfinal against a Costa Rican side that is riding high following a six-goal performance against Martinique in their final group match.

But Lozano is confident in what his team is capable of: "I'm a winner, and there are many players here who are the same. We're going to do everything in our power to bring the Gold Cup back home," he told TUDN prior to the July 8 match.

The Mexico vs. Costa Rica CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal will be the second match of a doubleheader at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

  • Date: Saturday, July 8
  • Time: 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT)

The broadcast of the match will begin 30 minutes before the match at 9:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. PT).

The first game of the Texas doubleheader will see Panama take on Qatar three hours earlier at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT).
