What is Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's England role?
Eagle-eyed Euro 2024 fans will have spotted Hasselbaink on the bench during England's Euro 2024 campaign with Southgate regularly consulting with him and assistant manager Steve Holland during games.
Hasselbaink's England coaching career stretches back to March 2023, when he accepted an offer to link up with his old teammate Southgate following the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He was hired as a replacement for the outgoing Chris Powell, who has since moved on to EFL Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.
Hasselbaink was a constant presence during England's Euro 2024 qualification campaign and has been part of Southgate's team throughout the finals in Germany.
Despite being a striker in his playing days, Hasselbaink's coaching role with England has focused across multiple areas, but Southgate has leant on his experience in working with Kane and others.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink coaching record
Following his retirement from playing in 20008, Hasselbaink worked to secure his UEFA 'A' and 'B' licences during a spell coaching Nottingham Forest's reserve and first-team squads.
His breakthrough came at EFL League Two club Burton Albion in 2014. The former Netherlands international led them to promotion at the end of the 2014/15 season in a record-high league standing for the club.
However, he opted to leave midway through the following campaign to make the step up to Championship outfit QPR, before being dismissed in November 2016.
His exit from Loftus Road was followed by a spell at Northampton Town, before he returned to Burton Albion in 2021. He kept the club in League One for the next two seasons before moving on again in September 2022.
How good was Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink? Playing stats of ex-Chelsea star
Premier League supporters most often associate Hasselbaink with the Chelsea team of the early 2000s where his goals kept the Blues on the heels of title rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.
However, it was not just Stamford Bridge that saw the best of Hasselbaink, as his pace, link-up play and deadly finishing proved a hit wherever he played.
Twenty league goals at Portuguese side Boavista in 1996/97 secured a move to English football with Leeds United, and he bagged 34 Premier League goals in two seasons before making a bold switch to Atletico Madrid.
The goals continued to flow in Spain, with 24 league strikes in his sole season in the Spanish capital, before he accepted a move to Chelsea.
Sixty-nine top-flight goals in four seasons at the Bridge also included two Premier League Golden Boots, although he did not win a major trophy in his time there.
He added to his tally at a Middlesbrough side captained by Southgate, and lost out in the 2006 UEFA Cup final.
His final Premier League goal tally stands 127, putting him 16th on the all-time list in the competition.
