Everton, meanwhile, were walloped by Brighton 3-0 in their opener. Kaoru Mitoma scored a first-half opener, and things really came undone when Ashley Young was sent off just after the hour mark, leading to the floodgates opening. After two seasons of fending off the threat of relegation, Everton are hoping for a turnaround this season to fend off larger financial worries.
