Manchester City and Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal worth €95 million ($103.7m) for the transfer of Julian Alvarez.

Alvarez, who joined City in 2022 from River Plate for £14 million (€16.3m / $17.8m), served as a valuable backup to Erling Haaland as Pep Guardiola's team secured the Treble.

In the 2023/24 season, his role was pivotal to their success as he stepped up when Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne were injured, finishing the season with more playing time than almost anyone else on the team.

Having also won the World Cup and Copa America with Argentina during this period, the 24-year-old boasts an impressive résumé as he heads to LaLiga.

As he reportedly wanted to play more as a central striker, a role less available at City with Haaland is fit, Alvarez attracted interest from Atletico Madrid, who have now agreed to sign him.
