Suni Lee lives for the moment.
She can't help herself, after all. The former Auburn star has been a whirling dervish for years, frolicking all along the mat as equal parts technician and daredevil.
All of her work behind the scenes came to fruition in 2021 when she captured an Olympic gold medal in the all-around. Lee soon was the talk of the town, earning invites to black-tie events and interviews with some of the biggest publications in the world.
But her heart still was set on gymnastics. And after a successful season with the Tigers, Lee is back in her element: international competition.
The 20-year-old gets her first chance at gold at the 2023 U.S. Gymnastics Championships in San Jose.
She'll have plenty of competition. Simone Biles is returning to the fore, as are fellow Olympians Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles. Leanne Wong, who finished second in the U.S. Classic to Biles, is also among the dark horse threats to emerge out the field.

Lee's events will be televised over the course of the weekend. Her first day of competition Friday will be aired live on Peacock, then replayed Saturday on CNBC. The final day of the women's competition on Sunday will be shown live on NBC.

Lee will likely compete in all four apparatus — bar, beam, vault and floor — over the course of the weekend as she attempts to reclaim her status as best all-around performer in the country. Lee is the reigning Olympic champion in all-around and figures to be among the favorites alongside the likes of Biles, Wong and various others.
