Tennis fans were concerned when top-ranked Australian and World No. 9 ATP player Alex de Minaur barely showed emotion after winning his Wimbledon Round of 16 match against Arthur Fils. De Minaur later explained that he heard a crack and sustained a "freak injury" to his hip on match point. That injury forced him to withdraw from the tournament before he could face Novak Djokovic in his first career Wimbledon quarterfinal.

Besides missing Wimbledon, de Minaur's injury could force him to pull out of the Paris Olympics beginning on July 27. Olympic competition eluded him in 2021 when he tested positive for COVID-19 before the Tokyo Olympics. De Minaur has been vocal about how important competing in the Olympics is to him, but it remains to be seen if he will recover quickly enough to play.
