21 different countries won a swimming medal in Tokyo three years ago, including 11 who won a gold medal, but it wouldn't be fair to say parity reigned among the nations.

The United States and Australia combined for 51 of the 111 swimming medals earned in Tokyo and more than half of the gold medals, with Team USA's 30 medals leading the way. Can either country extend its dominance to 2024?

The U.S. is bringing another loaded team to the Olympics, but a handful of other countries have reason to believe they can cut into the Americans' success. Canada, which won six swimming medals in 2021, has a star in Summer McIntosh on the women's side, while host nation France is expecting Leon Marchand to contend for multiple gold medals; France hasn't won a gold medal in swimming since 2012.

Australia, meanwhile, doesn't believe its surge is anywhere close to done with Ariarne Titmus hoping to leave Paris with plenty of hardware after winning four medals three years ago.

The Sporting News is tracking the swimming medal count from the 2024 Paris Olympics. Follow along below with the latest standings.
