The Avalanche continued to stick around on the brink of elimination, knocking off the Stars 5-3 Wednesday in Game 5 of their second-round playoff series in Dallas. Unlike Games 2-4, the Avalanche took control of the contest from the opening puck drop.

Thanks to Cale Makar, the Avalanche scored two critical goals to propel Colorado to the win and extend the series to a Game 6 home date Friday night. Makar said during his post-game availability that it took a bit to get into a rhythm, but once pucks started to go in, the rest was history, he said.

“I felt like once we were getting pucks, it was right on and off the stick, and trying to avoid a little bit of the pressure,” Makar told reporters. “Having that different mentality, an attack mentality, and not trying to back down or trying to look for the perfect play.”

For the Stars, a slower pace ensued for the first time in over a week. They just finished 25 percent on the power play and got outhit 34-20.

The series will shift back to Colorado as the Avalanche will look to force a winner-take-all Game 7 while the Stars attempt to advance to the Western Conference Final against the Canucks-Oilers winner.

Will Dallas prevail, or will Colorado keep the series alive?
