It may take awhile for New York Jets' fans to fully process what they saw during Thursday Night Football, and what they saw was historic.
With the maestro Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, New York looked remarkably competent on offense, a feat that has been a foreign concept over the past five years in Jet land. The Green & White attack was so effective that it held the ball for 40+ minutes, more than doubling the visiting New England Patriots in time of possession en-route to an unprecedented team achievement.
In a wire-to-wire 24-3 victory, the Jets totaled 400 yards of offense while their defense held the Patriots to 139 net yards. Together, New York had a turnover-free single-game performance that had yet to be seen during the NFL's Super Bowl era.
"I'm proud of our guys. We've been improving, but it hasn't been good enough for some people outside of the rooms, so to have a performance like tonight, I don't know how many yards we finished with, but it feels really good," said Rodgers after his first home win as a Jet.
While Rodgers was dealing, the Jets' defense was dialed in on stuffing New England. Gang Green recorded 7.0 sacks and kept their opponent out of the end zone.
According to Stats Perform, it was the first time, in the past 58 years, that a team registered at least 400 yards of offense and 40 turnover-less minutes of possession while sacking the opponent at least seven times and allowing no touchdowns.
"It was a great win. A great team win in all three phases," said head coach Robert Saleh on Friday morning. "We're not gonna overreact just like we didn't overreact in Week 1."
In addition to accounting for an all-time statistical feat, the victory was New York's first over the Patriots at MetLife Stadium since 2015. After 15 straight losses in its series with New England, the Jets have won two in a row.
