The Washington Commanders announced that their Legend of the Game in the Week 2 home opener against the New York Giants is tight end Vernon Davis.
Vernon Davis, 40, started his career in 2006 as the draft's 6th overall pick for the San Francisco 49ers and won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 2015 before coming home to Washington to conclude his career.
Davis graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington, DC, and played college football at the University of Maryland. He retired from the NFL on February 2, 2020. He ended his career with over 580 receptions, more than 7,500 receiving yards, and 63 touchdowns.
He is a philanthropist and entrepreneur who had his own day in the District of Columbia on March 12, 2019. It is only fitting that the Washington Commanders also honor him as a legend of the franchise.
