It's almost scary to think what can be when it comes to New York Jets starting running back Breece Hall in Year 3.
Coming off an ACL tear, Hall ran for 994 yards and scored a team-high nine touchdowns behind a makeshift offensive line last season. He also received little support from the passing game.
This season, however, should differ greatly. In addition to welcoming back future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers from his Achilles rehab, the Jets replaced three starters along the offensive line this past offseason. With right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker expected ready for Week 1, second-year center Joe Tippmann is the lone projected starter who was in the lineup for New York's 2023 regular season finale.
"It helps everybody. You know, the o-line is always the engine that gets the car moving," said fourth-year head coach Robert Saleh when asked if the offensive line changes "help Breece" after Thursday's practice.
The Jets have installed eight-time Pro Bowl honoree Tyron Smith at left tackle, former Baltimore Ravens starter John Simpson at left guard and familiar veteran Morgan Moses at right tackle.
"Whenever somebody talks about our O-line, I just smile because now I feel like I'm blessed because I'm around all these guys," said Hall at the podium in Florham Park.
The 23-year-old emerging star, who ranked second amongst all NFL running backs in scrimmage yards (1,585) last season, has already noticed the offensive line changes on the field.
"I'm just seeing their growth every day and seeing myself build confidence behind running behind them and trusting what they're doing has been good," said Hall.
The Jets RB1 made a noteworthy reception along the sideline during Thursday's practice and his long run was arguably Friday's top play. With more support, Hall may be able to boost his already-impressive production in 2024.
