Devlin Hodges likely couldn't have guessed he would be a starting quarterback in a primetime matchup this season, but the undrafted rookie took care of business Sunday night.
Hodges and the Steelers take a 24-17 road victory over the Chargers at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.
With Ben Roethlisberger suffering a season-ending elbow injury in Week 2 against the Seahawks and backup Mason Rudolph out with a concussion he suffered last week vs. the Ravens, Pittsburgh (2-4) turned to Hodges, an undrafted Samford product, against Los Angeles (2-4). Hodges answered with 15-of-20 passing for 132 yards, a touchdown which was enough to hold off the Chargers' fourth-quarter comeback bid.

Minus a deep-ball attempt early in the fourth quarter that was intercepted, Hodges enjoyed a relatively mistake-free evening, something Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers was unable to accomplish. Rivers finished the night 26 of 44 for 320 yards, two fourth-quarter touchdowns, two interceptions and a lost fumble. The Los Angeles offense wasn't able to manufacture much of anything until it made a late rally, scoring 17 points in the final period before Rivers was picked off with 41 seconds to play.
With the loss, the Chargers have already suffered as many defeats (four) as it did all of last season. Los Angeles' losses have come by an average of six points, each of which were one-possession games.
