It is no secret that the Cleveland Browns are starting the season with an already depleted offensive tackle depth chart.
Three injured Browns offensive tackles: James Hudson, Hakeem Adeniji, and German Ifedi, left the second preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. Adeniji was subsequently placed on IR, but Hudson and Ifedi are expected back shortly, per Coach Kevin Stefanski.
Though roster cuts are imminent (August 28), is it worth it for the Browns to look at former Bengals 2021 second-round pick Jackson Carman who was recently released?
The team may have already done it by watching Bengals film from their second preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played a sloppy game, drawing many penalties.
This appeared to be the final straw as Carman was reportedly given plenty of chances by the Bengals to perform at a high level at the guard and tackle positions.
It does not look like Carman can help the Browns' offensive line, which is dealing with its own penalty issues, in addition to injuries. Losing legendary offensive line coach Bill Callahan to Tennessee (replaced by Andy Dickerson) was huge for a team that once boasted the best offensive line in football. Hopefully, the level of offensive tackle play will be better in the final preseason game against Seattle on August 24, 2024.
