The Lions finished the first half against the Cardinals with a thrilling hook-and-ladder touchdown on Sunday, but the play nearly came at a serious cost.

TE Sam LaPorta appeared to be injured after the play, which saw Jahmyr Gibbs go into the end zone after a lateral pass from Amon-Ra St. Brown to extend Detroit's lead to 13.

The Lions' offense started hot in Arizona, with Jared Goff finishing the first half 12-of-12 for 137 yards and two touchdowns. LaPorta, to no surprise, was a major factor with 36 yards, though No. 2 TE Brock Wright had four catches in the half, as well.

Detroit went on to win 20-13 against Arizona.

Here are the latest injury updates on LaPorta after he left the field on Sunday.

Sam LaPorta injury update

LaPorta was carted back to the locker room after suffering an apparent lower-leg injury while blocking for Gibbs on the touchdown. However, he was able to return for the start of the second half.

Video showed LaPorta's ankle get twisted up underneath a defender, and he was seen hobbling off after the play. The Lions brought out the cart to get him back to the locker room, raising serious concerns among fans.

With halftime approaching and the Lions' offense almost certainly done for the half, the Lions might have preferred to just get LaPorta in for testing as soon as possible to make sure nothing was broken.

LaPorta's return hinted at the fact that he isn't dealing with a fracture or serious injury, and Lions head coach Dan Campbell confirmed on Monday that is a low-ankle sprain.
