Philadelphia Eagles training camp has featured a few interesting edge rushers starting to emerge for the defense.

But for one NFL analyst, more is never a bad thing.

Over at Bleacher Report, Alex Ballentine has suggested that the Eagles actually ship away pass-rusher Josh Sweat in a deal with the Carolina Panthers, getting a 2025 second-round pick and edge defender K'Lavon Chaisson in return:

“The team traded Reddick to the Jets and signed Bryce Huff. With Nolan Smith expected to make a big leap in Year 2, the Eagles seem to have their pass-rushing duo.”

If the Eagles don’t have intentions of bringing back the 27-year-old Sweat, it’s not the worst idea in the world to eventually get something for his upcoming departure as he enters the final year of his deal.

That said, this move would place a lot of pressure on a newcomer like Huff and Smith, the former first-rounder, never mind Brandon Graham. One of the Eagles training camp’s biggest breakout players is a pass-rusher, too, yet this trade would strain depth. That's even with the addition of Chaisson, a first-rounder by Jacksonville in 2020 with five career sacks over four seasons.

Trading away Sweat’s 6.5 sacks over 17 games last year would be a gamble, though perhaps it’s something the team considers later in the season near the trade deadline.
