Following a 37-20 Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Washington Commanders slipped seven spots from 21st to 28th in the Sporting News Week 2 NFL Power Rankings.

Jayden Daniels got off to a rocky rookie start with three fumbles, but hope is not lost. Rome was not built in a day.  The team went through significant player and coaching changes in the offseason.  It takes more than one regular season game for everything to come together.

The Commanders were not sharp in any facet of the game: offense, defense, or special teams.  The defense allowed Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield to throw for nearly 300 yards and four touchdowns.  On special teams, Commanders kicker Cade York missed two field goals resulting in his release on Monday.

Commanders fans should not overreact to the Week 1 loss or drop in the rankings.  It is a long season ahead beginning with a favorable matchup next week. The Commanders host the New York Giants in Week 2 who rank 30th in the power rankings.
