A few days ago, the Browns were considered frontrunners to work a deal with the San Francisco 49ers to get wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

On Monday, the rumor mill turned to the Browns AFC North rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers.  There were a host of Steelers fans trying to turn this rumor into reality with repeated social media posts.

At no time was anything confirmed or denied by the San Francisco 49ers or reputable NFL insiders.

That situation changed late Monday when respected NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted on social media the following statement that he derived from his multiple sources: "Sources: There is currently no trade in place for All-Pro WR Brandon Aiyuk to the #Steelers. I’m told the #49ers have had discussions in recent days regarding a potential Aiyuk trade with several teams, but as of this post -- nothing is finalized."

The one interesting takeaway from Schultz's statement is that the 49ers must be open to the possibility of trading Aiyuk if they are talking with "several" teams. This is newsworthy because no one from the 49ers has said anything publicly since news broke that Aiyuk requested a trade. It gives fans a glimpse of what is going on behind the scenes.  It also means there could be more Aiyuk news to come so stay tuned.
