Mekhi Becton injury update: Eagles Tyler Steen a wrecking ball in relief at RG

Among the many obstacles the Philadelphia Eagles faced during their wild Week 3 win over the New Orleans Saints was losing the entire right side of their offensive line.

Star right tackle Lane Johnson was forced out after just 18 snaps with a concussion, and right guard Mekhi Becton exited early himself with an injured finger.

With Becton out, Tyler Steen stepped in for his first action of the season and was dominant as the Eagles gutted out a huge 15-12 win.

According to PFF, Steen was the Eagles’ top-graded pass blocker with an 88.1. He played 37 pass blocking snaps at right guard and posted zeros across the board in pressures, hurries and penalties. Steen and fellow reserve lineman Fred Johsnon, who filled in at right tackle, were both wrecking balls in the run game as the Eagles churned out a healthy 6.9 yards per carry average for the game.

The extent of Becton’s finger injury is still unknown. It was significant enough to limit the former No. 11 overall pick of New York Jets to just 14 of the Eagles 71 offensive snaps against the Saints.

Steen had a thing or two to prove after losing the position battle to Becton during training camp. He earned a run blocking grade of 72.3 from PFF and was the team’s fourth highest-graded player on offense overall with a 79.6.
