Sorry, all you Jason Witten critics out there. ESPN says he's staying on "Monday Night Football."

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter raised eyebrows this weekend by reporting that Cowboys coach Jason Garrett has tried to lure the 36-year-old Witten back to the playing field this season.

But Witten's not going anywhere, ESPN said in a statement Sunday.

"Jason remains committed to ESPN and to his role on Monday Night Football," the network said.

That might dissappoint some TV viewers who regard Witten as clumsy and fumbling in the booth.

But the TV rookie is getting better. He's making a reported $4 million-plus a year to serve as color commentator on Monday night. Say what you will about his rocky performance so far, lead analyst for "Monday Night Football" is still one of the plum jobs in TV.

Witten, who retired after last season, spent his entire 15-year NFL career with the Cowboys, finished second only to Tony Gonzalez in career receptions and receiving yards among tight ends.

The Cowboys have struggled at the tight end position this year. But America's Team is leading the NFC East. It's no surprise Garrett would try to lure Witten out of retirement for their playoff push.
