Former Raiders tight end Foster Moreau has finally inked a contract with the Saints — but it was a bit of a roundabout, life-altering way to get there.

In March, Moreau underwent a standard physical during a free-agent visit with the Saints, which ended up saving his life: The physical discovered that Moreau had Stage 2 Hodgkin lymphoma, which would prevent him from taking the field in the immediate.

In a turn of the positive for Moreau, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the tight end has signed a contract with New Orleans and intends to play in 2023. The contract is a three-year deal worth up to $12 million, with $8 million of that fully guaranteed.

Schefter reports that Moreau has been cleared to play, meaning there's a chance he'll be on the field come Week 1 this upcoming season.

It is, though, unclear where Moreau stands in his recovery from cancer. At the time of his diagnosis, Moreau had something of a positive note for the spread of the illness.

"It's at Stage 2, so it's spread from the initial location. But it appears to be a slow spread and we should be able to get rid of all of it," he said.

When he suits up for NOLA, it'll be a homecoming for Moreau: He was born and raised in New Orleans and went to college at LSU before he was drafted by the Raiders in 2019.

Now, it looks like Moreau will go marchin' in with the Saints come the 2023 season.
