The Miami Dolphins are mourning the loss of one of their legends.  Running back and two-time Super Bowl Champion Mercury Morris, 77, died on Saturday.

Though many fans most closely associate fullback Larry Csonka with the 1972 Miami Dolphins, Morris was an integral part of the team's perfect season.  He played college football at West Texas State and was a third-round pick in the 1969 NFL draft by the Dolphins.

Morris and Csonka each rushed for 1,000 yards in the 1972 season consisting of 14 regular season games. Morris also scored a career-high 12 touchdowns to cap off the perfect season.

Larry Czonka toasts the 1972 Miami Dolphins every season the final NFL undefeated team gets its first loss.  The reality is that achievement by the Dolphins is one of the most amazing in sports history and is extremely unlikely to be duplicated.

Following his playing career, Morris dealt with legal issues but persevered from them by becoming a motivational speaker.  Morris was also occasionally involved in creative projects in film and commercials.
