Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle fully supports Skylar Thompson leading the team while quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is out.

NFL analysts thought that the Dolphins may call Ryan Tannehill or another experienced veteran to be QB1, but Coach Mike McDaniel said last week that Thompson is the guy.  The team has since signed Tyler Huntley off of the Ravens practice squad for additional depth, but he is not in competition for the job.

Waddle believes in Thompson.  He said: Thompson "plays with a lot of swag out there.  It's going to be fun." Waddle admitted that he talked to Tua, and he's in "good spirits."

Thompson has come into the huddle in relief of Tagaovailoa before.  In 2022, he had two starts and appeared in seven games when Tua had his previous concussion issues.  He was 1-1, competing 60 passes for 105 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.

Thompson won the backup job over the summer over Mike White after a "neck and neck" competition for the job.  He needs to be battle-ready from the get-go. The 1-1 Dolphins travel to Seattle to play the 2-0 Seahawks in a challenging Week 3 road game on Sunday, September 22.
