The Eagles came into Week 3 already short-handed at wide receiver, with star A.J. Brown sidelined for the time being.
Things got worse for Philadelphia vs. the Saints though, as DeVonta Smith took a big hit in the fourth quarter and left the game.
Smith has become one of the most reliable targets in the league for QB Jalen Hurts next to Brown. If both miss more time, it would leave Philadelphia's wide receiver room looking thin moving forward.
Here are the latest updates on Smith's status after the Eagles' Week 3 win against the Saints.
Devonta Smith injury updates in Week 3
Smith was hit from behind after making a catch in the fourth quarter against New Orleans. While he was already wrapped up by multiple Saints defenders, he took a helmet-to-helmet hit that left him injured.
The game went to a timeout from there as Smith remained on the field.
Smith went into the medical tent shortly after leaving the field, and later went back to the locker room. However, he gave Eagles fans an encouraging sign as he left.
After being evaluated, Smith was ruled out by the Eagles for the rest of the Week 3 game due to a concussion. There haven't been further updates on his status since, but Philadelphia squeezed out a 15-12 win in his absence.
Postgame, Eagles DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson wasn't happy about the play that left Smith injured.
The injury left Jahan Dotson and Britain Covey as Hurts' top wide receivers to finish the matchup. If Smith isn't able to recover from his concussion by Week 4, the Eagles offense will continue to rely on their rushing duo of Saquon Barkley and Hurts plus TE Dallas Goedert in the passing game.
