Despite winning two MVPs, Lamar Jackson hardly has the traits that ESPN's Dan Orlovsky thinks make a great quarterback.
Orlovsky ranked his top 10 quarterbacks in traits like arm strength, ball placement, pocket presence, and more, and Jackson only made the list in four of seven categories. And Jackson only finished in the top five in three of those four categories.
Here's how Orlovsky ranked Jackson:
- 10th in arm strength
- 5th in pocket presence
- 1st in rushing ability
- 3rd in section-reaction ability
Orlovsky did not rank Jackson in his top 10 in ball placement, mechanics, or decision-making with the football.
Jackson is a no-brainer when it comes to rushing ability; Orlovsky said it should come as no surprise that Jackson, who led all QBs in rushing yards last year, is No. 1.
However, beyond that, Jackson was not specifically mentioned in any of Orlovsky's breakdowns of each trait.
Orlovsky, of course, is not disrespecting Jackson with these rankings, but it's hard not to notice how little the reigning MVP is mentioned.
Jackson is looking to take his passing game to the next level in Year 2 of Todd Monken's offense. Jackson has been working on calling plays at the line of scrimmage, calling audibles, and reading defense. Perhaps with a more efficient season, Jackson will be recognized for his abilities beyond his legs.
