The theme of the Dallas Cowboys 2024 preseason is contract woes and chief among them is the situation with quarterback Dak Prescott.  He enters the fourth and final year of his $160 million contract and could be a free agent in 2025 if the Cowboys do not negotiate an extension.

Becoming the highest-paid NFL quarterback is now a function of being the player who most recently signed his extension so could Prescott earn that honor?

The Cowboys have struggled with contract management for years including those of former running back Ezekiel Elliot, and former wide receivers Michael Gallup and Amari Cooper. They are now in the heat of it again with camp holdout wide receiver Cee Dee Lamb and Prescott.  On the heels of all of this, they will need to pay Micah Parsons soon who is entering the fourth year of his rookie deal.

On top of that head coach Mike McCarthy is entering the last year of his contract.

How will the Cowboys resolve these issues so the team can concentrate on the 2024 season?  Will Dak get an extension?  If so, that extension will be met with even greater expectations for this team to get to the Super Bowl, a feat that has eluded them for years despite having plenty of talent on both sides of the ball and on the coaching staff.
