Might the Washington Commanders have an interest in free agent wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster after his release from the New England Patriots?

It might be a question worth asking as the Commanders attempt to establish a consistent core around second-overall pick Jayden Daniels.

Those Patriots just cut Smith-Schuster and ate a roughly $9.63 million dead cap charge in the process after the first season of his three-year deal worth roughly $25.5 million produced 260 yards and one touchdown over 11 games.

Despite this, JuJu Smith-Schuster is still just 27 years old, generally has pretty reliable hands and averages 11.7 yards per catch for his career.

The Commanders might find this attractive as a depth piece, at least. Terry McLaurin is a dominant No. 1 wideout, but former first-rounder Jahan Dotson remains a question mark, and Luke McCaffrey, while promising, is a rookie.

If Smith-Schuster were willing to take on a depth role, he’d make for an interesting veteran presence who can come in and help while also not necessarily taking away a roster spot from a training camp breakout such as Brycen Tremayne.
