The homecoming for Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Calais Campbell came at a big discount.
Campbell, the former Miami Hurricanes standout, signed a one-year deal worth $2 million with the Dolphins in free agency this offseason.
While that was obviously a low offer, Campbell recently appeared on the “Dan Le Batard Show and revealed that it was the lowest offer by quite a bit from interesting teams.
"I had other offers,' Campbell said. "This is the cheapest offer I had by a large margin... I feel like this is my best shot at winning a Super Bowl."
While a low offer, it was fair to wonder if the deal Campbell ended up signing was simply what all teams were offering for a guy who will turn 38 years old in September despite his 56 tackles and 6.5 sacks over 17 games in Atlanta last year.
Campbell is a former PFWA NFL Defensive Player of the Year, first-team All-Pro, Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, Pro Bowler and member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, yet the elusive Super Bowl triumph is something he’s yet to add on the resume.
