The Bills won the AFC East last season after a tumultuous turn of events in the final weeks. They fell in the Divisional Playoffs to the Bengals 27-10 and free agency added numerous holes to their roster.

Not only that, but Sean McDermott and the franchise are looking at salary-cap issues as they look ahead. Spotrac projects the Bills' 51-man roster to be about $6 million under the cap, giving GM Brandon Beane minimal room to maneuver.

The general manager may have to look at restructuring contracts to clear space for new faces.

Bills NFL Draft needs

  • Wide receiver: The Bills need an extra receiver to complement Stefon Diggs. Period. Yahoo Sports said that, while "Gabe Davis is a big-time vertical receiver, [he] doesn't separate well enough across the route tree to be a legitimate No. 2." For a team with Super Bowl aspirations, they sure ran low on gas with their current build last season.
  • Linebacker: The Bills lost a key part of their defense when Tremaine Edmunds left for the Bears. But, The Sporting News' Vinnie Iyer thinks it's something the Bills need to address in one of their earlier slots, and that Arkansas' Drew Sanders would be a "fine replacement [of Edmunds] to complement Matt Milano" in the upfield due to his "rare combination of flying around to tackle versus the run and rushing the passer."
  • Offensive line: Pro Football Focus pointed out that, following the Bills' loss to the Bengals in the playoffs, the corrosion is giving way to show the real decline in Buffalo's offensive line production. The Bills' line ranked as low as 28th according to PFF at one point and surrendered 211 pressures in the 18 weeks. Josh Allen could use more reliable protection.
