Why Bryce Young's Panthers offense had to run laps at training camp

Things are not going well for Bryce Young’s offense at Carolina Panthers training camp.

Monday was especially bad, with Young throwing a quick interception in 11-on-11 work. The disparity between the offense and defense was so profound that onlookers didn’t have many ways to sugarcoat the proceedings.

One note suggested it was the quickest practice of camp by far, while Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer wrote the following: “Pads are coming off mid-practice, defense is having a hell of a time on the sideline celebrating while the offense has huddled up after being dominated in the first set of 11 reps.”

It didn’t stop there, either—Kassidy Hill of the team’s website noted that the offense had to run gassers after practice concluded.

Young and Co. didn’t suit up in the team’s first preseason game (a loss to New England), so perhaps the team approaches the last two exhibitions differently.

But the vibe leaving Monday’s practice clashes dramatically with the big expectations for the former No.1 overall pick under the guidance of new head coach Dave Canales, whose expertise comes from the offensive side of the ball.
