Days before the Super Bowl, Brittany Mahomes earned her biggest career accomplishment yet. The former professional soccer player and Kansas City Current owner will be featured in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit's 60th anniversary edition in May as a rookie.

Mahomes and the company released a behind-the-scenes video Thursday from her photoshoot in Belize. Notably the wife of Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes, SI highlighted Mahomes's own accomplishments in the announcement. She'll be featured alongside fellow women who "empower, inspire, and use their platforms to be both seen and heard."

"Brittany emerges as the epitome of a modern-day powerhouse. Founder of the world’s first-ever dedicated stadium for women’s sports, Brittany’s journey has surpassed all expectations, inspiring others with her tenacity, and unyielding determination," said the Instagram post.

Mahomes played college soccer at the University of Texas-Tyler before traveling to Iceland to play pro. She retired in 2017 but continued working in sports and health and fitness. The 28-year-old launched Brittany Lynne Fitness in 2019.

Executive members of the KC Current, Mahomes and her husband were instrumental in adding the NWSL team's new stadium. CPKC Stadium, which opens this season, is the first venue built specifically for a women's sports team.

“I’m truly just so humbled and still in disbelief,” she told the magazine. “As a girl from Tyler, Texas, who only really knew sports, never in a million years did I think I’d be in [the SI Swimsuit Issue]. I’m just so grateful for this opportunity.”
