It was shaping up to be one of the best showings of "Thursday Night Football" that has been delivered all season, but the evening matchup between the Bengals (5-5) and the Ravens (8-3) ultimately fell flat.

It started off as the toughly fought quarterback matchup between Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow that was expected, but that quickly faltered as injury issues plagued both signal-callers. In the first half, Jackson was hit hard by Bengals defender Logan Wilson and appeared limited by an ankle injury throughout the remainder of the game.

The Bengals suffered a game-changing loss toward the bottom of the second quarter as Burrow sustained a wrist injury that kept him out of the rest of the action.

Despite some efforts by former Washington quarterback Jake Browning, who did have several positive plays using his mobility, his level of inexperience and the Bengals' difficulty with adjusting the game plan so quickly and unexpectedly did show through.

After Burrow was forced out of action, it was all Ravens from a momentum perspective as Baltimore's Augustus Edwards, Nelson Agholor and Rashod Bateman all found their way to the end zone on Thursday night at M&T Bank Stadium.

With the victory, the Ravens hold strong at the top of the AFC North division. This marks now 24 losses in the last 25 of the Bengals' road games in prime time.

Bengals vs. Ravens live updates, results, highlights from 'Thursday Night Football'

(All times Eastern)

Ravens 34, Bengals 20

- 11:20 p.m. Jake Browning finds wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase for the 2-yard touchdown

- 11:18 - Jake Browning uses his legs to bring the Bengals inside the 20, giving them a chance to close what's become a large gap a bit more in the final two minutes of the contest.

- 11:06 p.m. - Augustus Edwards scores his second touchdown of the evening with a 3-yard score as a game already out of reach from the Bengals continues to slip even further away.

- 11:02 p.m. - It's easy to get the sense this could have been one of the best and most entertaining matchups of "Thursday Night Football' all season long to this point, but injuries have really taken away from that. It's clear Lamar Jackson is being hampered by an ankle injury and any momentum the Bengals held slipped away when Joe Burrow was sidelined. Jake Browning has shown a lot of potential with his legs, but adjusting a game plan on the fly for a player with this lack of experience is never easy. That much has shone through clearly.

- 10:50 p.m. - Running back Joe Mixon has been the biggest impact player for the Bengals throughout the game. He leads the team in rushing with 64 rushing yards on 14 carries. He has scored the Bengals' only touchdown of the game, totaling four receptions for 29 yards and one score.

Ravens 27, Bengals 13

10:19 p.m. - The Bengals make it a one-possession game again with a 26-yard field goal from Evan McPherson.

10:10 p.m. - Joe Burrow stands on the sideline with no helmet as Jake Browning continues to assume the quarterback position for the Bengals. Burrow left during the second quarter with a wrist injury.

9:53 p.m. - In the final seconds of the first half, Lamar Jackson finds Rashod Bateman for the touchdown. It's his first touchdown reception of the season.

8:33 p.m. - The Bengals settle for a 50-yard field goal to cut the Ravens' lead to 7-3 midway through the first quarter.

8:31 p.m. - Ravens tight end Mark Andrews is questionable to return with an ankle injury.

8:27 p.m. - Burrow keeps it himself for the eight-yard carry on the Bengals' first offensive play of the game.

8:25 p.m. - Ravens running back Augustus Edwards takes it in for the short touchdown run. It will now be up to Joe Burrow and co. to respond on their first drive, which will start from their own 25.
