1 trade the Dallas Cowboys should explore before 53-man roster is finalized

The Dallas Cowboys should try to swing a trade with quarterback Trey Lance, before they waive him and get nothing in return.

The Buffalo Bills would be a good trade partner as they only have an injured Mitch Trubisky backing up starter Josh Allen.

It has become apparent that Cooper Rush won the role of primary backup to Dallas starter Dak Prescott.

Therefore, Dallas has a dearth of quarterbacks on their roster. They should try to trade Lance to Buffalo, who is in desperate need of a backup quarterback. Aside from Trubisky, the Bills' cupboard is bare.

Even if the Cowboys get a late-round draft pick in return, it would still be worthwhile.

Lance may get waived by Dallas with the intention of putting him on the practice squad. However, making him a free agent might be dangerous for the Cowboys.

With Rush winning the backup job with a strong preseason performance, Lance becomes expendable.

The Bills still have Trubisky on the roster, but whether he stays or goes on injured reserve, or is waived with an injury settlement is still to be determined. Anthony Brown and Ben DiNucci, the remaining camp arms, did not play particularly well for the Bills in the preseason and were released.

Until Trubisky is healthy, and a determination of his status is resolved, the Bills have no backup quarterback.

There is still a chance for Brown or DiNucci to be signed to the practice squad, but the Bills will still need to dress a second quarterback for games.

It is believed that Brown and DiNucci are serviceable at practice, but Sean McDermott would rather go in another direction on the 53-man roster, should Trubisky not be able to go.

DiNucci would more than likely be the quarterback the Bills try to get for their practice squad, if they do not pull off a trade for Lance or another capable backup to bring up to their 53-man roster.
