An ACC-Big 10 football matchup takes place under the lights Thursday night with North Carolina taking on Minnesota.
Last season when these teams faced off in the first part of a home-and-home series, the Tar Heels picked up a 31-13 victory in front of their fans in Chapel Hill.
One of the biggest differences for this matchup is the fact that the Tar Heels no longer have Drake Maye, meaning the run game, led by star Omarion Hampton, will be the focal point of attack. In the box on defense for North Carolina is middle linebacker Power Echols and edge Kaimon Rucker, both players with game-breaking abilities that should be unlocked in new defensive coordinator Geoff Collins's scheme.
The Golden Gophers also have a new face at quarterback with Max Brosmer at the helm. The FCS transfer (New Hampshire) led the FCS with 3,489 yards last year while throwing 29 touchdowns. While Brosmer will be expected to air things out, the combination of Marcus Major (Oklahoma) and returning back Darius Taylor should be able to be the catalysts for the offense if needed.
The Golden Gophers also look different on defense in terms of scheme with new DC Corey Hetherman calling the shots. He has a group full of experience that shouldn't be hindered by the addition of a few wrinkles.
