In the overlapping history of college football recruiting and the internet — approximately the last 25 years — Texas Tech has landed just one five-star recruit.

That recruit is freshman wide receiver Micah Hudson, who could very well change the fortunes of the Red Raiders early in his career.

"You'll see, Week 1, Micah Hudson," Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire said at Big 12 Media Days. "A couple of coaches have talked about generational player. Like he is really special. He's extremely athletic. But his maturity level and the love of football and just the love of the locker room, I haven't been around a lot of people like that."

Hudson has earned this type of hype. At Lake Belton High School in Temple, Texas, Hudson finished his career with 5,111 yards of total offense and 48 total touchdowns and was the two-time District 4-Class 5A MVP.

As a senior at Lake Belton, the 6-foot, 195-pound Hudson was compared to 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson by 247Sports and is already projected as a first-round pick in the NFL Draft — the first year he could be eligible for the draft would be 2027.
