As the college football season ticks past the midway point, top-five teams Texas and Georgia will get a true measure of where they stand Saturday.
The top-ranked Longhorns have been perhaps the nation's dominant team so far, outscoring opponents by an average of 36.9 points per game behind the best scoring defense in the land (6.3 points per game). Their resume includes blowout wins over a pair of blue bloods in Michigan and Oklahoma, but the Longhorns' strength of schedule so far ranks just 82nd in FBS according to ESPN's College Football Power Index.
The Bulldogs have played the seventh-toughest schedule by the same measure but have shown plenty of inconsistency, mauling Clemson before narrowly escaping Kentucky and getting a brief scare last week from a 1-5 Mississippi State team. Georgia's lone loss, at Alabama three weeks ago, doesn't look as defensible considering the Tide's subsequent struggles against Vanderbilt and South Carolina.
