So much is uncertain about the future of college football, but it feels like a wrong has been righted with the return of Texas vs. Texas A&M.
Steve Sarkisian agrees as he shared at the SEC spring meetings.
“We get A&M back,” Sarkisian told ESPN’s Heather Dinich. “The game with A&M, you're talking about houses divided, you're talking about decades of tremendous games and Thanksgiving weekend. To get that game back, we're looking forward to it, I'm sure A&M is, too. I've got a ton of respect for Coach [Mike] Elko.”
The Lone Star Showdown started all the way back in 1894, and the Longhorns and Aggies haven’t played since 2011, when Justin Tucker, now a guaranteed NFL Hall of Fame inductee, hit a 40-yard field goal for a dramatic 27-25 victory in College Station. Texas leads the series all time 76-37-5.
The series finally resumes in its traditional Thanksgiving weekend on Nov. 30 in College Station.
There may be a lot on the line for both the Longhorns and Aggies with all the hype surrounding Texas, and Texas A&M possibly vying for one of the last playoff spots in the expanded 12-team playoff.
Now that only seems fitting in a stacked SEC.
