In a tune-up for next week’s matchup with the Michigan Wolverines in The Big House, the Texas Longhorns scored at will.
They also imposed their will defensively on the hapless Colorado State Rams, holding Colorado State to less than 200 total yards in a 52-0 whitewash of the Rams.
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers spread the ball around the yard and threw passes to every eligible receiver. Ewers completed 74 percent of his passes.
Transfer receivers stood out in this game with Isaiah Bond (1 TD) and Matthew Golden (2 TD) each on the receiving end of touchdown passes.
The Longhorns’ defense tackled by committee on almost every play with bone-jarring tackles. In addition, they forced an INT by Rams quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi.
Texas has also held CSU start receiver Tory Horton to just 5 catches for just 31 yards, and more importantly zero touchdowns. In addition, the Longhorns allowed the Rams to cross into Texas territory only twice in the game.
Arch Manning came into the game near the end of the third quarter and led the Longhorns on a scoring drive, capped by a shuttle pass to Silas Bolden for a touchdown. Later in the fourth quarter, Manning scored on a designed quarterback run for his second TD of the game.
Nicolosi was inept at throwing the football, forcing the Rams to be one-dimensional on offense, and was replaced by Jackson Brousseau.
However, Brousseau was not much better as he threw an INT in the back of the endzone to give the ball back to the Longhorns to run out the clock.
