The Bulldogs went 14-12 under Moorhead's lead over two years. Mississippi State fell to Louisville 38-28 in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30, finishing the 2019 season at 6-7. Moorhead's team also lost last year's Outback Bowl to Iowa.
Prior to Moorhead's hiring, Mississippi State had won six bowl games in eight years. The program's loss to Louisville marks the first time Mississippi State has lost bowl games in consecutive years since 1991-92.
Mississippi State's turbulent season began with seven players suspended because of violations of team rules. The Bulldogs were also without quarterback Garrett Shrader in the Music City Bowl because of an injury stemming from an alleged fight with a teammate.
Mississippi State lost all three games against ranked opponents this past season and was outscored by an average of 29 points in the defeats.
