It was a busy Labor Day weekend in college football, with games being played from Thursday to Monday night.

College football analyst and former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy laid out his analysis of the Texas Longhorns’ 52-point shutout of Colorado State.

In addition, he provided his thoughts on the performance of backup signal caller Arch Manning. Manning completed over 80 percent of his passes and accounted for 2 touchdowns on the day.

As reported by Cole Sullivan of Athlon Sports, McElroy said, “I was really interested to see what Arch is going to do. I thought he looked really solid. Went 5 of 6, had a couple of touchdowns. So, it looks like Texas is not just in good hands at quarterback this year, but for the forseeable future with the progress that has been made by Arch Manning.”

Of course, Quinn Ewers is the QB1 starter, and Manning is the next man up should he be needed. The more game reps the better for Manning’s development.

Texas travels to the Big House on Saturday to take on the Michigan Wolverines. This will be a step up in competition and will be a barometer for whether Texas belongs in the conversation as one of the best teams in college football.
