Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders has played the last two years — if not his whole life — with the shadow of the NFL lurking over his career.

Now, in his final college season, how high he can climb when it comes to where he’s selected in the 2025 NFL Draft seems almost entirely up to him.

ESPN put Sanders in its category of “Serious Contenders” for the No. 1 overall pick in 2025 headed into the 2024 season after three brilliant years. He played two seasons at Jackson State and one at Colorado, where he threw 3,230 yards, 27 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 11 games in 2023. He was also sacked 52 times, which was the most of any quarterback in the FBS.

From ESPN: “Sanders must learn to trust his internal clock and get the ball out on time more consistently. With a new scheme in place under Pat Shurmur, NFL teams will be tracking Sanders' season closely. He still has plenty of questions to answer about his game and what he could bring in the pros.”

Colorado opens the season on Aug. 29 at home against North Dakota State.
