The 2024 women's NCAA Tournament has the potential to be one of the most exciting events in college basketball history.

Unbeaten South Carolina will enter the bracket as the No. 1 overall seed after surviving a couple of close calls against Tennessee and LSU in SEC tournament games. Led by center Kamilla Cardoso, the Gamecocks boast a balanced attack and have very few weaknesses.

Outside of South Carolina, there are several squads that could make a run to the Final Four, including defending national champion LSU. Iowa's Caitlin Clark and USC's JuJu Watkins are talented enough to carry their teams through multiple rounds.

How will the NCAA Tournament play out? March Madness truly begins on Sunday night with the unveiling of this year's field.

Women's NCAA Tournament 2024 selection format

A total of 68 teams will participate in March Madness. There are two ways for a team to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament: a conference tournament title or an at-large bid. Thirty-two teams will enter the bracket via automatic bids, leaving 36 at-large bids for the rest of the tournament hopefuls.

The NCAA selection committee, which consists of 12 members, chooses the teams that will receive at-large bids and ranks the entire field. The committee accounts for several factors when building out the bracket, including the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) and conflicts that may arise based on regular season matchups and tournament sites.
