The 2024 NCAA Tournament is thinning out, as Elite Eight games start Saturday with top-seeded UConn facing Illinois in Boston for a trip to the Final Four.

The Huskies are aiming to become the first team since Florida in 2006-07 to win consecutive national championships. Last season, they defeated San Diego State to win the national title.

Ironically, they defeated the Aztecs on Thursday, 82-52, in the Sweet 16. Cam Spencer led the Huskies with 18 points, shooting 50% from the field and grabbing five rebounds.

Their closest margin thus far in the tournament came against Northwestern, when they won by 17 points. They defeated Stetson by 39 and, as mentioned, the Aztecs by 30.

As for the Illini, they sneaked past Iowa State on Thursday, 72-69, to advance to the Elite Eight. Terrence Shannon Jr., who has shined this entire tournament, scored 29 points to lead them to a win.

Before the Cyclones, the Illini had a fairly easy road through the tournament. They defeated Morehead State by 16 points in the first round and bested Duquesne by 26 in the second.

The Illini haven't been to the national championship since the 2004-05 season. That was the last time they've been as far the Elite Eight, too. Can they get back there with a win over the Huskies on Saturday?
