The race for the title at the 2024 men's NCAA Tournament is wide open.

A wild regular season showed that several squads could navigate their way through the bracket and secure a Final Four berth. However, as March Madness often reminds us, it only takes one unfavorable matchup to dash championship dreams.

UConn is aiming to become the first team since Florida (2006 and 2007) to win back-to-back national titles, and the Huskies certainly have the talent to pull off the impressive feat. Other contenders include Arizona, Houston, Purdue, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Where will those teams land in the bracket? We find out on Sunday night.

NCAA Tournament 2024 selection format

A total of 68 teams will participate in March Madness. There are two ways for a team to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament: a conference tournament title or an at-large bid. Thirty-two teams will enter the bracket via automatic bids, leaving 36 at-large bids for the rest of the tournament hopefuls.

The NCAA selection committee, which consists of 12 members, chooses the teams that will receive at-large bids and ranks the entire field. The committee accounts for several factors when building out the bracket, including the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) and conflicts that may arise based on regular season matchups and tournament sites.

"The bracketing is very mechanical," NCAA director of media coordination and statistics David Worlock told The Associated Press. "Conference affiliation and geography drive the decisions. Until you run into a conflict, that's what determines who goes to what region and the first and second sites are. It's very turnkey."
