Tyrese Haliburton's dad: John Haliburton
Haliburton's dad is John Haliburton, of Wisconsin.
During their appearance on "Inside the NBA," Haliburton credited his father with teaching him how to play, saying, "the amount of 90s Magic (Johnson) film this guy has made me watch in my life is ridiculous."
How long the elder Haliburton's basketball career lasted is unclear, but he stays close to the game as he officiates games in Wisconsin. When speaking of his dad's job, Haliburton joked that, "he's a terrible ref, don't let him lie to you. We got into it last night — he's a terrible ref."
John Haliburton makes his presence felt at Pacers games and last season, took credit for encouraging Buddy Hield to shoot the ball more. After Indiana's Game 6 victory over New York in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, John certainly made his presence felt.

Tyrese Haliburton's mom: Brenda Haliburton
Haliburton's mom is Brenda Haliburton, who is also rooted in Wisconsin.
While not as vocal as her husband, John, Brenda Haliburton has played just as much of an integral role in their son's basketball career. After signing a five-year, $260 million extension with the Pacers during the 2023 offseason, Haliburton became emotional when talking about his mother's impact.
"There's so many people for me to thank but I'd be wrong if I didn't start with my mom," Haliburton said.
"My mom has been my everything for me to get here. I can't even put into words to explain everything but I'm just really appreciative of you, Mom, because of all the stuff of us growing up and pushing me to be where I am today and making sure I could get to every trip, making sure my teammates made it to every trip — it just means a lot to me so I love you and I'm really appreciative of you."
Haliburton has explained that his mom makes nearly all of his games and is his harshest critic while his dad is the "good cop" with his support.
