It has been reported per Jovan Buha that the Los Angeles Lakers are relying on the health of their role players to bolster their team, specifically Gabe Vincent and Jarred Vanderbilt. It seems they would rather work with what they have then continue to work free agency.
The Lakers have had a very poor offseason performance, as their only significant moves were re-signing LeBron James, and drafting Dalton Knecht and Bronny James in the past draft. They tried bringing in stars such as Klay Thompson and DeMar DeRozan, but both players decided on other teams.
Relying on Vincent and Vanderbilt may not be a good idea either, as both players had ok to mediocre seasons last year. In 20 minutes per game, Vincent only averaged three points, two assists, a rebound, and a steal. Vanderbilt also played 20 minutes per game, and only averaged five points, five rebounds, an assist, and a steal. However, Vanderbilt’s presence is mostly felt on the defensive end.
Still, relying on these two players to bolster the Lakers' depth is not a good idea, as their previous production has proven to be mediocre to barely adequate at best. The Lakers should seriously take another shot at free agency, as relying on these players and their rookies to help LeBron, Anthony Davis, and Austin Reeves is not a great idea.
