The Chicago Bulls may have just caught a lucky break.

The Bulls are currently facing an awkward situation concerning their six-time All-Star shooting guard.

DeMar DeRozan wants out of Chicago, and everyone knows it.

DeRozan is a free agent, but the Bulls had expected to retain him this summer. Chicago expressed a strong desire to re-sign DeRozan immediately following the 2023-24 season.

As the summer has advanced, however, that possibility has slipped away from the Bulls.

Chicago's executive Artūras Karnišovas provided a grim update on the DeRozan situation last week that basically said (without saying) that the Bulls and DeRozan were headed in different directions.

Now with it surfacing that DeRozan wants no part in Chicago's rebuild, it appears the Bulls are going to lose DeRozan to free agency without getting anything in return for the 34-year-old.

Then again, there is still one way that the Bulls can get a return for DeRozan, and that is through a sign-and-trade.

Not only that, but Chicago reportedly has interested parties in such a deal.

ESPN's Marc J. Spears appeared on NBA Today on Tuesday and revealed that the Sacramento Kings have surprisingly emerged as a potential landing spot for DeRozan this summer.

"(The Kings) are a dark horse to get (DeMar) DeRozan," Spears said. "The Kings will be back in the postseason next year, they got a move coming soon."

Sacramento could ostensibly work with Chicago on a sign-and-trade for DeRozan that sends a player like Kevin Huerter to the Bulls.

Chicago's front office is known to be pro-Huerter. Will the Bulls make a deal work with Sacramento and move on from what has been a disappointing end to the DeRozan era?
