The NBA has talent incoming on a yearly basis. And with 30 teams and only 15 active roster spots on each, a lot of talented players find themselves on the outside looking in.
Life in the NBA moves fast, and at times, some players need to consider all options if they hope to continue their professional careers. As a result, many hoopers tend to sign deals overseas to continue chasing their dream. Which is exactly what this former Los Angeles Lakers player chose to do.
Montrezl Harrell is headed down under after signing a deal with the Adelaide 36ers. The big man joins the 36ers on a short-term deal after the team lost a key player in Jarrell Martin, who is recovering from an injury. However, according to ESPN’s Olgon Uluc, Harrell could stick around in Australia even after the team returns to full health.
“Harrell will be on a short-term deal, sources said, but there’s potential for him to remain with the team when Martin is healthy. The 36ers would need to deactivate a local player in order to accommodate that,” Uluc reports.
The former Sixth Man of the Year winner made a name for himself during his time in the league, but the journeyman dealt with injuries that ultimately led to inconsistent play and a struggle to earn a roster spot. Nonetheless, when Harrell is on the court, he’s an absolute force on both ends at his best.
If the 30-year-old can put together a solid film in his time with the NBL, he could find himself fielding opportunities from NBA teams during the season.
